Cardinal Wiseman Catholic School have achieved the Live Simply Award!
What is the Live Simply award?
The LiveSimply award, established by CAFOD, is an opportunity for Catholic communities – parishes, schools, religious orders and chaplaincies – to answer the call for us to care for our common home and stand in solidarity with our sisters and brothers around the world.
As a school community dedicated to caring for those in need, much of the award criteria was already commonplace at our school! Throughout the year, the chaplaincy team worked hard putting together an initial plan with each action dedicated to supporting our school, local or global community. We committed to having a Sustainability team (branching from our Chaplaincy team), an unplugged day in school, collecting crisp packets to support the work of the Crisp Packet Projectand so much more. Throughout our journey, we paid particular care and attention to how these actions link to our faith and all that Jesus did in His life, with a focus on how we are living out our Wiseman virtues in the process.
As part of the accreditation process, our students and staff were interviewed by a CAFOD representative, this is an excerpt from our feedback: Joe Burns, CAFOD LiveSimply Award Assessor was delighted to confirm Cardinal Wiseman Catholic School, Birmingham has achieved the LiveSimply Award. He said “This school are truly living the values of LiveSimply, every action they have taken has been carried out with a great deal of thought enabling them to live simply, sustainably and in solidarity. Their inspired actions have and will continue to make a real difference to the planet and to the lives of others in their school, local, and our global communities”.
We are incredibly proud of all that our community continues to do for the good of our planet, global family and those closer to home. This award serves as a reminder to us that we have the ability to make a real difference and we are grateful for the recognition from CAFOD for all that we do and will continue to do moving forward.
