As a proud Catholic community, we look to the saints for their example of commitment, courage and faith. We pray that with their intercession, particularly of our Patrons, we may strive for sainthood ourselves!

At the beginning of Year 7, our students are placed into a formation group named after and inspired by our five patron saints. Throughout their time at Cardinal Wiseman, students dedicate time to learning about their lives and in doing so, gain a sense of ownership and pride in their formation groups under these impressive people.

We have had some incredibly special artwork commissioned, designed by firstsaturday shop, that proudly sits in each formation room and other prominent areas of the school. Having this family of saints visible to us serves as a constant reminder that not only are we called to be saints ourselves, but that they are caring for us and cheering us on from heaven!

Alongside each image of the saints, is a patron prayer which was written by our Student Chaplaincy Team and said in Formation sessions each week.

Lord, we thank you for the gift of St Bernadette, and for her readiness to respond to Our Lady’s call. We pray that we may be as willing as she was to serve You and those in need. Through Bernadette’s intercession, patron saint of the sick, we ask that all those suffering may receive healing through Your grace.

Lord, we thank you for the inspiration of St John Bosco and for the care and commitment he showed to young people like us. We pray that we may always see our education as a gift and that as we continue to grow, we always see the value in every person as John Bosco did.

Lord, we thank you for the gift of St. Francis. We pray that like him, we may be stewards of our common home and that we will always seek to do all we can to protect our world and everything in it. We ask that you are with our world leaders as they continue to make decisions, as well as with us as we work together to look after our planet.

Lord, We thank you for the work of Saint John Henry Newman and for his dedication to you. Help us to be inspired by this local saint and his perseverance when things are difficult. We pray that we may always value our learning in the same way he did, and that we may use it to bring others closer to you.

Lord, we thank you for St. Teresa and for her gifts of love, generosity and compassion that she used to help those most in need. We pray that we may be like her in being instruments of God’s mercy to every person that we meet and that Your light may always shine through us.

Cardinal Nicholas Wiseman

We also draw inspiration from Cardinal Nicholas Wiseman. Widely admired for his humanitarian work, intellect and achievements, Wiseman dedicated his life to sharing the Roman Catholic faith as we know it today, even in the face of adversity.

We are particularly inspired by Wiseman as not only did much of his ministry take place in England, notably as the first Archbishop of Westminster, but he also served as rector at Oscott College, Kingstanding, just down the road from us!

Heavenly Father,

We thank You for the gift of this day, and for all that we have achieved and received during it.

Help us to continue to make our school a nurturing environment, rooted in compassion so that we may all have the opportunity to shine.

Enable us to be inspired by the achievements of Cardinal Wiseman who was unfailingly faith filled and courageous as he stood up for his education and Catholic faith.
